The Government of Spain has launched the Biogas Roadmap for public consultation until September 15, which foresees that biogas production will multiply by four in 2030

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has launched the Biogas Roadmap for public consultation until September 15, which plans to multiply biogas production by four in 2030, up to 10,4 TWh.

These objectives would be in line with what is established in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) 2021-2030, the Long-Term Strategy for a Modern, Competitive and Climate Neutral Spanish Economy in 2050, and in accordance with the Climate Change Law and Energy Transition.

The roadmap has 43 lines of action to promote an increase in sustainable biogas production until 2030 and is focused on the recovery of agricultural and municipal waste and sewage sludge.

Two short-term measures stand out: the creation of a system of guarantees of origin and the potential establishment of annual penetration objectives in the sale or consumption of biogas, with mandatory quotas.

For AEBIG, technical partner of the first Renewable Gas Show that is held from September 21 to 23 in Valladolid in parallel to Expobiomasa and the 14th edition of the International Bioenergy Congress, it is an objective that is “not very ambitious and disdains the potential of biomethane and its influence on the agricultural and livestock sector, the industry, the creation of employment in rurally depressed areas and its contribution to the environment.”
