The Bens WWTP in A Coruña will supply biomethane to Inditex

The board of directors of the Bens Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) will take a new step within its strategy linked to renewable energies with the approval of an agreement with Naturgy, EnergyLab and Inditex to supply gas to the textile company complex , an agreement that will be signed later with the company.

The WWTP has been working on this project to obtain biomethane from waste since 2017, in what is called the circular economy, and after completing a pilot initiative it is now taking this important step. This new stage will consist of injecting the produced gas into the network to supply the textile giant's complex in the Sabón industrial estate, which in this way adds another project in its commitment to renewable energy.

The treatment station facilities have the capacity to produce 500.000 cubic meters of renewable gas per year, which represents an energy of 5,5 gigawatt hours annually.

An important part of the agreement between the WWTP, Naturgy, EnergyLab and Inditex is that the benefits generated through this production and distribution of biomethane are reinvested in R&D&i projects linked to renewable gases and the circular economy at the facilities. of Bens, never for financial gain by any of the participating actors.
